Crossing Arts Alliance to host Picturing13
Picturing is the longest running Crossing Arts Alliance program and is celebrating year 13.
Utah-based photographer Guy Tal will be keynote speaker and workshop instructor.
Space is limited for the Saturday presentations and Sunday workshop, so pre-registration and pre-payment are recommended.
The following presentations will take place from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, in Room E354 at Central Lakes College, Brainerd. Cost is $30 for adults and $15 for students.
• Guy Tal of Torrey, Utah, is renowned for both his elegant landscape images and his ability to articulate his creative approach in writing and public speaking.
• Dave Boran of Brainerd will share images and thoughts about the people and culture of the island nation of Cuba gathered during his recent weeklong trip.
• Brenda Pfeffer, Picturing Photographer of the Year, started as a photographer while attending Franklin Junior High School, which is now Franklin Arts Center.
A reception will be from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Q Gallery, Franklin Arts Center, 1001 Kingwood St. #222, Brainerd, to honor exhibiting photographers (listed below) and Photographer of the Year Pfeffer.
Cost is $15, with $5 off to anyone who participates in the workshop or is a Crossing Arts or FocalPOINT member.
The workshop, Digital Processing Workshop with Guy Tal, will be from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, in Room E354 at CLC. Cost is $50.
A field trip that morning will be announced.
An exhibition will run from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20-Tuesday, Sept. 3, or by appointment at the Q Gallery at Franklin Arts Center.
It is free and open to the public and will feature works by photographers Roy Abbott, David Barthel, Dan Baumbach, Dave Boran, Shirley Bormann, Stan Bormann, Jeff Collins, Gretchen Ennis, Robert Fitzsimmons, Jeanni Foss, Vicki Foss, Shirley Gorg, Martin Gilchrist, Sunday Grogan, Bryan Hargrave, Gary Harris, Kathy Herold, Barb Johnson, Lonnie Knutson, Jodi Liberty, A. David Matthew, Wiliam Miotek, Deb Mitzel, Lorraine Northagen, Mark Persons, Mary Roberts, Jim Roelofs, Jennifer Salvevold, Kevin Snyder, Jane Stevens, Mike Vogt and Carol Weitz.
Crossing Arts Alliance activities are funded, in part, by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Five Wings Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund; and grants from Brainerd Service League, Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union, and the Anderson Family Legacy Fund.
