Northwoods Art and Book Festival, Poetry Recognition set Aug. 17

The 18th annual Northwoods Art and Book Festival and Poetry Recognition Event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, in downtown Hackensack.

This festival includes a variety of artists who work with fibers, paint, clay, metal, photographs and wood. Their booths are located inside the Hackensack Community Building as well as outside along a closed off street.

Meet authors, poets and illustrators who will sell and sign their books throughout the day in the upstairs of the UCC Church, outside and in the community building.

For the sixth year original poems submitted by Minnesota poets will be displayed and recognized in the UCC Church. You are invited to read and vote for your favorite poems displayed in the church between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Six of the poems on display will be chosen as Popular Choices by those voting at the festival. Six poems judged as Works of Merit by a committee of local poets will be announced.

At 1:30 p.m. in the UCC Church there will be a poetry reading by poets who were selling their books throughout the day and poets who submitted poems for the poetry display. During this time, Works of Merit and Popular Choice poems will be announced and read. There will be no open mike readings.

Food vendors will be available all day in the food court area. The children’s creative area will feature canvas and face painting.
