The concert is in support of the Lakes Area Moto Hope Mission campaign to complete construction of a Christian elementary school in the Moto region of rural Kenya.

Melendez was born a thalidomide baby without arms and plays the guitar with his feet. A performance for Pope John Paul II in 1987 inspired Melendez to share his message of hope through music. He is just returning from World Youth Day 2013 in Brazil where he performed for Pope Francis.

Moto Hope Mission, a central Minnesota non-profit education charity, was founded two years ago and has built a 10-classroom school in the Moto region of Kenya with an enrollment of 350 students. Moto Hope has also provided a school bus, electricity and clean water supply for the school and village.

Funds raised at the Melendez concert will help with construction of an additional 10 classrooms, a dormitory, dining hall, computer room and a health care center open to the community, said Sandy Baldwin, co-founder of Moto Hope Mission.

Tickets for this family event are available at the door or online at www.motohopemission.com. Tickets are $5 for youths, $10 for adults and $25 for families. The event will also include an ice cream social and silent auction.
