Music in the park is Sunday, July 28, in Longville

This summer’s second Music in the Park program will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, July 28, at the gazebo on the park-like grounds of Salem Lutheran Church in Longville.

Performing will be acoustic guitarist Michael Hirst of southwest Florida. Longville is one of Hirst’s stops on a 2013 summer Midwest tour.

A singer and songwriter who performs original songs and hits from a wide range of artists, Hirst is known for his acoustic covers of The Beatles, Eagles, Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, Jim Croce, Willie Nelson, America, The Beach Boys and others. His wife, Donna, accompanies him with light percussion and backup vocals.

Hirst released a CD in 2012 titled “The Other West Coast,” a blend of covers and originals, and features his original song “Lost in a Dream.” This summer, he will release another CD titled “No Other Place.”

Admission is free, but freewill offerings are appreciated. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic food. In case of inclement weather, the performance will be held inside the church.

Popcorn and lemonade will be available for donations to Salem’s missions outreach to provide clean water in Africa.

Music in the Park is a community outreach activity of Salem Lutheran Church and supported by the Longville Area Community Choir. It is funded in part by grants from Lake Country Power, Arvig Systems, Blandin Foundation and Longville Area Community Foundation.
