Hackensack to be site of chainsaw carving event

Hackensack will again be the home of the National Chainsaw Carving Event on Sept. 27-29.

The three-day event features 10 chainsaw carvers who will turn simple logs into works of art. The crowd can enjoy the progress as the carvers use their artistic insight and creativity to make sculptures from the logs.

The event includes the All-American Lumberjack Show, and there will be a special school show on Friday, Sept. 28. Other shows will take place Friday, three times on Saturday and once on Sunday. Interspersed between shows will be a variety of kids and family games.

As part of the event, there will be food vendors and numerous booths featuring the work of several Minnesota artisans.

Carvers are coming from Minnesota, Nebraska and Iowa. Logs of white pine 16 to 20 inches in diameter are being sought. If you have some you are willing to donate, contact Duane at 218-675-6580.

The event will conclude with an auction of the carved pieces, starting at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29.

This is the original event, held in the Hackensack City Park. The event is sponsored by the Hackensack American Legion Family, the Hackensack Lions, the Hackensack Chamber of Commerce and the city of Hackensack.
