Join us on Thursday evening, May 9, at 7 p.m. as we welcome Nancy Scheibe of Ely.

Scheibe is an author, an artist and an adventurer. Her program, “River stories — making dreams come true,” focuses on making true her childhood dream of paddling the Mississippi River.

She divided the river into three sections and in 2004, 2007 and 2011, with teams of volunteers, led the kayaking expedition that ensued. She’s written three books that vividly capture the flavor and adventures of each section of the river and tell the heartwarming and inspiring stories of the women she met along the way.

This program will appeal to everyone. It is free of charge and is made possible through the Legacy Fund voted on by the people of Minnesota to preserve Minnesota’s art and cultural heritage.

Come read to Rocky

Our Reading to Rocky program continues Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to noon. Rocky, a certified pet therapy dog, will be at the library to listen to children read to him.

Rocky’s friend, Linda Shalley, accompanies Rocky. She says that children, especially those who struggle with reading, benefit from reading to someone who is totally nonjudgmental. That would be Rocky!

Rocky and Linda will be at our library from 10 a.m. to noon the second Saturday of each month. Mark your calendars!

To all of our volunteers

You rock! Thanks!

I've worked at the Brainerd Dispatch with various duties since Dec. 7, 1983. Starting off as an Ad Designer and currently Director of Audience Development. The Dispatch has been an interesting and challenging place to work. I'm fortunate to have made many friends, both co-workers and customers.
