Legacy Chorale to perform 'A Celtic Celebration' concert April 13 in Pequot Lakes

The Greater Lakes Area Performing Arts will end the 2012-13 performing arts season with a performance by The Legacy Chorale of Greater Minnesota at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 13, in the Pequot Lakes High School auditorium.

The Legacy Chorale is composed of central Minnesota vocalists under the direction of founder and artistic director Sarah Aamodt.

“A Celtic Celebration” includes popular Celtic folk songs, hymn tunes and dance melodies from Ireland, Wales and Scotland. The high points of the concert will be an arrangement for bagpipes and choir that includes the popular “Amazing Grace.”

Brian Solum, a professional Highland bagpiper from Bemidji, will also perform two solo selections during the concert.

Audience members will hear tunes that are familiar, such as “Danny Boy,” “Molly Malone” and A Welsh Lullaby,” along with new melodies such as “Kyrie on Logan Dell” and “The Fiddler of Dooney.”

The concert repertoire includes the songs “Dulaman,” “Amazing Grace” and “The Rocky Road to Dublin” that have been made popular by internationally known performing groups like Celtic Woman and Celtic Thunder.

“A Celtic Celebration” concert will feature a Celtic band made up of area and out state musicians: chorale accompanist is Laura Raedeke (Nisswa), Sarah Lockwood (Hastings) on violin/fiddle, Jim Olson (Brainerd) on guitar, Lance James (Brainerd) on recorder/penny whistle, Jenny Gunsbury (East Gull Lake) on flute, Laurie Chamberlain (Brainerd) on bass and Steve “Gus” Augustinack (Baxter) on Celtic bodhran/percussion.

Tickets may be reserved by calling the Pequot Lakes Community Education office at 218-568-9200. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors (age 60 and older) and $8 for youth (age 18 and younger). Tickets will be sold at the door starting one hour before the concert.

This spring concert also will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at First Lutheran Church in Aitkin and Friday, April 12, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Baxter.
