The Legacy Chorale of Greater Minnesota, under the direction of founder and artistic director Sarah Aamot, will perform its spring 2013 concert series, entitled “A Celtic Celebration,” in April at three area venues at 7:30 p.m.:
• Thursday, April 11, First Lutheran Church, Aitkin.
• Friday, April 12, Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Baxter.
• Saturday, April 13, Pequot Lakes High School, Pequot Lakes. The concert in Pequot Lakes is part of the Greater Lakes Area Performing Arts 2012-13 concert series.
Admission for the concerts in Aitkin and Baxter is $10 for adults and seniors, and free for students age 18 and younger. Tickets for these two concerts can be purchased at the door at each concert; at the Brainerd Dispatch; Bethany Bookstore and the Independent Age in Aitkin; by contacting Bill Satre, Legacy Chorale manager, at 218-270-8020; or by going to www.legacychorale.org.
Tickets for the concert in Pequot Lakes must be purchased through Pequot Lakes Community Education by calling 218-568-9200 and requesting the number of reserved tickets you want. Tickets can be picked up one hour prior to the concert. Cash and checks only; no credit cards.
Ticket prices for the Pequot Lakes concert are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for youth.
Repertoire for the concert series will include popular Celtic folk songs, hymn tunes and dance melodies from Ireland, Wales and Scotland. A high point of the concert will be an arrangement for bagpipes and choir that includes “Amazing Grace” and two solo selections by Brian Solum, a professional Highland Bagpiper from Bemidji.
The concert will also feature a Celtic band, made up of area and out-state musicians: chorale accompanist Laura Raedeke (Nisswa), Sarah Lockwood (Hastings), violin/fiddle; Jim Olson (Brainerd), guitar; Lance James (Brainerd), recorder/penny whistle; Laurie Chamberlain (Brainerd), bass; and Steve “Gus” Augustinack (Baxter), Celtic bodhran/percussion.
The Legacy Chorale, in its 11th season, consists of 58 auditioned singers from 15 area communities: Aitkin, Baxter, Brainerd, Breezy Point, Crosby, Crosslake, Deerwood, East Gull Lake, Garrison, Hackensack, Little Falls, Merrifield, Nisswa, Pequot Lakes and Pillager.
