PAMDA Penguin Plunge to be Jan. 26 in Hackensack
As a part of the Back to Hack annual celebration, The Pines Area Medical Development Association (PAMDA) will sponsor the fourth PAMDA Penguin Plunge at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, on the shores of Birch Lake in the Hackensack city park.
Many brave “plungers” will take the jump into the chilly waters for the benefit of the local medical clinic, operated by Essentia Health. Businesses are putting together teams or are sponsoring individuals and teams.
The entry fee is $30 per jumper and additional funds are pledged by supporters of the teams, individuals and the clinic.
Prizes will be awarded for the team or individual who raises the largest amount of money.
Forms are available for advanced registration at many local businesses such as Swanson’s Mark’s Market, First National Bank and Lucette’s.
In addition, jumpers may register the day of the event on site at noon.
Emcee for the event is Jay Kline, who introduces teams and jumpers and adds humor and interesting information about penguins. The oldest jumper participating last year was a local woman in her 70s. She stated she had such a successful and healthy year that she has agreed to jump again in the upcoming event.
Cass County Dive Team members will be available in case they are needed. A warming tent for jumpers will be provided. Spectators are encouraged and bleachers will be available to view the event.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to show their support for our local medical clinic,” said Dawn Pederson, chair of the PAMDA board of directors. “We are so fortunate to have this clinic to serve our area and the PAMDA board is thrilled to sponsor the event.”
This event is only a part of the annual Back to Hack weekend, which will begin with activities Friday night, Jan. 25, as well as Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 26-27.
