Civil War, women's movement focus of Jan. 8 presentation
Karen and John DeVries will present the second of a two-part program centered on the sesquicentennial “celebration” of the Civil War from 4-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, in Room E208 at Central Lakes College in Brainerd.
Special emphasis will be on the turning-point battles of the war that led to Union victory, Abraham Lincoln’s leadership, Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox and the impact of the war on American politics and society.
Woven through the discussion will be a continuing focus on the role women played during the war. Included will be a display and a discussion of Civil War era quilts.
The event is free for CLC Center for Lifelong Learning members and $6 for non-members.
