Johnson, who once was in a trio with John Denver, sings “Bluer Than Blue,” “Give Me Wings,” “This Night Won’t Last Forever” and other landmark songs. He started playing at age 13. He loves to sing, play, write and record.

Johnson studied in Barcelona.

A returning performer for the concert series in Nisswa, Johnson prefers the intimacy and spontaneity of a show that can change with the moment.

“I like to talk to people and I love to make them laugh,” he said. “And, of course, I have to move them with the music. That’s the whole thing. Without that, there is no reason to be on stage.”

Johnson’s website displays his 21 albums, including the latest: “Moonlit Déjà vu” released this month. He has collaborated with artists such as Peter Yarrow, Alison Krauss, Nanci Griffith and Judy Collins, whose 2010 album “Paradise” includes a duet on “Emilio,” a song he co-wrote.

The rest of the Grassroots Concerts season: Friday, Nov. 9 – Jonathan Byrd; Friday, Nov. 30 – The Bitter Spills.

Admission is $10 at the door for adults and $5 for children under 12 with listening attention, when accompanied by an adult.

The Live Well Nightclub and Coffee Bar is located across from the A&W Restaurant and next to the school in Nisswa.

Grassroots Concerts are made possible in part by a grant from the Five Wings Arts Council through the Minnesota State Legislature. The series is a 501c(3) non-profit under the Internal Revenue Code.

The concert series encourages those attending to bring non-perishable items for the food shelf.
