William "Bill" E. Spicer

William "Bill" Edwin Spicer, of Brainerd, age 74, passed away on July 4, 2014 at Essentia - St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd after a 4 month battle against cancer (MDS).

Bill was born in Albert Lea, MN on March 31, 1940. He was the son of Edwin and Dorothy Spicer. He married Nancy Hansen on December 6, 1958. Bill graduated from Anoka Vocational Technical Collage with a certification in the Tool & Die program.

Bill started his working career as a welder at E.M. (Electric Machinery) in Minneapolis. He moved to Garrison in 1976 and continued working in the Brainerd area as a cook at the Blue Goose Inn, a launch pilot for various resorts on Mille Lacs Lake and a machinist at Heartland Machine & Tool until his retirement in 2003. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was passionate about cooking and traveling in which he spent many years enjoying those hobbies with family and friends.

Traveling with his wife they spent 9 years navigating the states and going to the Corpus Christi, Texas area over the Minnesota winters. Bill made numerous friends in person and on-line throughout his life. He was very kind, wise, and generous, with a large heart and a great sense of humor. His personality brought many smiles to all he encountered.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Kurt and Mark (Kim) Spicer, and his daughter, Kathleen Krueger; his grandchildren, Rene' and Kari (Alex), Dean, Holly, Noah, and Jaden and Zach (Jessica) and Hannah; great grandchildren, Nathan, Alex and Janna, Isabel and Lyle; his sisters, Donna and Jackie and cousin, Diane (Bob) and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Dorothy, Step mom, Irma, sisters, Marilyn and Joy; brother, Gary; grandparents, Estelle and William Haglund and aunt and uncle Bobbie and Earl Kellar, and his beloved dog Taffy.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church in Garrison (10583 U.S. Highway 169). Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m.
