Authorities have identified two men who drowned during the Independence Day holiday weekend.

A 40-year-old man who drowned in the St. Croix River in south Washington County on Sunday has been identified as Juan Gabriel Diaz of Prescott, Wis.

Diaz drowned at Point Douglas Beach about 5:05 p.m., according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Diaz reportedly called for help before going under the water while moving from the swim area’s buoys back to shore. Searchers found his body in the swim area in about 10 feet of water.

A Hopkins, Minn., man drowned Sunday after he and a friend jumped off a dock to swim to a platform in Balsam Lake, Wis., about 60 miles northeast of the Twin Cities.

His friend made it to the raft, but when she looked back, 24-year-old Deangelo L. Williams was nowhere to be seen.

His body was found in about 30 feet from the dock in 10 feet of water, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
