Special exhibit highlighted at library

Through August, the library will highlight an exhibit on oral history taking.

Nisswa resident Clarence Carlson grew up in Hibbing, the son of immigrants from the Finnish island of Ahland. As a 19-year-old, he entered World War II, where, as an infantryman, he participated in five famous battles.

See Carlson’s comments and memories about his unique life experiences. Browse the table for ideas and books on how to take your own oral history or the oral history of a family member or friend.

Thank you, volunteer Ann Hutchings, for the special care you give to setting up the exhibits in the library. You always have good ideas and take good care of the items on display.

Magician to be last event in Kids’ Summer Reading Program

Professor Marvel will be at the library on Tuesday, Aug. 6, from 2:30-3:15 p.m. to entertain kids and parents with his Amazing Archaeological Adventure.

All kids are invited, not just those signed up for the reading program. That is also the last day kids may hand in their reading lists.

The ice cream and book party will be held at the library Tuesday, Aug. 20, from 1-2 p.m.

To all of our volunteers

You rock — thanks!

Quote for the month

“Let children read whatever they want and then talk about it with them. If parents and kids can talk together, we won’t have as much censorship because we won’t have as much fear.” — Judy Blume
