The Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus Road Crew wrestling team dominated Park Rapids 61-9 and Staples-Motley 49-19 in a triangular meet on Thursday, Jan. 3.

The Road Crew, 10-2 overall and an honorable mention votes in the Guillotine poll, were scheduled to face Blackduck on Tuesday, Jan. 8, and then not wrestle until Thursday, Jan. 17.

Road Crew 61, Park Rapids 9

Anthony Philipson, currently rated No. 6 in the state at 106 pounds, opened against the Panthers with a pin in 53 seconds to give the Road Crew the lead. Spencer Richards was tied going into the third period when he received a penalty point and got an escape to win 4-2 at 113. Nathan Adkins dominated with a 10-1 win at 120, and Brandon Mager and Triston Rubner followed with byes to give the Road Crew a 25-0 lead.

Jace Loge then wrestled against Ben Baumgarthner, who is ranked No. 4. Loge had three escapes and a takedown, but was defeated 10-5. Drey Loge, who is rated fourth and is 21-0 overall, needed just one minute and 58 seconds to get his pin. Dillon Nichols received a bye at 152, and Ozzy Miller followed with a takedown in the first period, a near fall in the second period and a reversal before winning with a pin at 4:59.

Kyle Jordan had a bye at 170, and Justin Mackenthun followed with two takedowns going into the third period. With 45 seconds remaining and the scored tied, Mackenthun was put to his back, fought off being pinned before losing 9-4. Cadel Roeder pinned his opponent at 1:47 at 195. Kurt Kent then went into overtime, but lost 5-3. Jared Adkins finished at heavyweight with a pin at 5:27.

Road Crew 49, S-M 19

Against Staples-Motley, both Philipson and Richards received byes and Mager registered two takedowns in the first period, two takedowns and three near-fall points in the second period, but the Cardinals’ Jake Bendson escaped for a takedown. Mager then got a reversal and won 13-5. Nate Adkins received a bye, and Rubner lost 5-1 against Blake Miller, who is rated No. 8. Jace Loge was taken down in the first period then got a reversal and two near fall points. Going into the third period Loge got a reversal and near-fall points to win 8-2. Gravdahl got the first period takedown and near-fall points before getting a reversal and a pin at 2:42 in the second period. Drey Loge got his second pin of the night at 1:34. Kyle Jordan dominated his first period with a takedown and nine near-fall points before winning by fall in 2:13. Mackenthun later scored on a takedown, but lost 14-2. Roeder lost his match 9-2. Kent was taken down in the third period and lost 8-6. The Road Crew didn’t put anyone on the mat at heavyweight.

The Road Crew junior varsity wrestlers recently competed against Park Rapids. Justin Newmann won by fall at 2:58, Dallin Sonenstahl won 6-2, Peter Koring dominated with a 16-4 win. Lucas McCoy lost in a close match 3-2. Jace Leabo got a pin at 1:00, Cody France won by injury default, and Isaac Manther was dominating before getting pinned at 2:29.

Against Staples-Motley, Koring got a pin at 2:58 and Evan Gravdahl needed just 1:03 for his pin. Rayne Villa was taken down in the first period, but won by fall at 1:47. Luke Sescher lost 8-7 and Devyn Richards won with a pin at 1:18. Darion Anderson dominated the first period and put on his back in the third period, but still won 9-6.
