Murray to perform Thursday in Crosslake and Pine River, Friday in Pequot Lakes

Local songwriter, singer and guitarist Shannon Murray will perform at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at the Crosslake Community Center; 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at The Warehouse in Pine River; and 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at the Pequot Lakes Library.

Her show, "People's Music: Songs of the Industrial Workers of the World," will feature some of her original music, as well as music of the early 1900s.

This event is appropriate for all ages.

Tea at the Station is Thursday in Pine River

In conjunction with Pine River Heritage Days, Heritage Group North will host the second annual Tea at the Station from 2-4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at the Pine River Depot.

Theme is "A Stitch in Time," and the tea will include a tribute to local quilters and seamstresses from yesteryear. Arlean Rosemore will speak. Hats and gloves are welcomed and optional.

Tickets are $25 each.

PR United Methodist to host quilt show Friday, Saturday

In conjunction with Pine River Heritage Days, Pine River United Methodist Church will host its free Quilt Show & More from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5 and 6.

Ladies of the church will have soup, sandwiches, salad and pie available for lunch during the show.

Leagjeld to present Book Talk on Saturday at Pequot Lakes Library

Local resident Ted Leagjeld, former teacher, retired resort owner and lifelong writer, will give a Book Talk and sign books at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Pequot Lakes Community Library.

Leagjeld recently published his fifth book, "Prairie Wind Rural School," and will relate his experiences as an educator starting in a one-room school in Jessie, North Dakota.

Everyone is invited to this free program. Leagjeld will have copies of all his books for purchase and for him to sign.

Faith in Action to sponsor Booyah fundraiser Saturday

Faith in Action for Cass County will sponsor a fundraiser Booyah from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Union Church in Hackensack.

Booyah is a thick, rich stew containing several types of meats and vegetables, slow-cooked for maximum flavor. The menu will also include organic sourdough bread, a choice of desserts and a beverage. Larry Kimball of Walker will provide guitar music and folk songs.

Tickets will be available at the door.

Community health comments sought in Backus

Cass County Health, Human and Veterans Services- Public Health will host sessions Monday, Sept. 8, in Walker and Backus to share results and seek final comments in the community health assessment and the community health improvement plan for creating healthier communities.

The Healthy Communities-Creating a Vision for Cass County sessions will be from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in the Commissioners Meeting Room of the Cass County Courthouse in Walker, and from 5-6 p.m. in the Meeting Room at the Cass County Government Center in Backus.

The Cass County community, partners and key stakeholders are invited to collaborate in planning how the community can mobilize actions for creating a healthier community based on three priority areas of tobacco use and exposure; overweight and obese; and healthy parenting.
