PR-B/PL varsity trap shooting team finishes 19th at state tournament

The Pine River-Backus/Pequot Lakes varsity trap shooting team finished 19th out of 73 teams at the state high school trap shooting competition Sunday, June 9, in Alexandria with 447.

Logan Kangas shot 95 out of 100 on a cold, rainy and windy day to take Top Gun honors for the PR-B/PL team. He placed seventh at the state contest.

Shane Sepin was close behind with a 94 and finished eighth in the state. Sepin also shot 25 straight in one round.

Top 10 shooters for PR-B/PL included: Kangas, 95; Sepin, 94; Quinn Harman, 87; Logan Bauman, 86; Bret Reed, 85; Jesse Ekstrand, 84; Travis Aune and Trenton Beyer, both 78; and Austin Nieman and Jacob Roubal, both 77.


In the Novice class, Ali Adkins shot 59 out of 75 for fourth place in the state for females, helping the PR-B/PL Novice team to 20th place overall.

Junior varsity

Austin McAllister of the PR-B/PL junior varsity trap shooting team led the way at the state competition, shooting 85 out of 100 for 14th place in the state.

The JV team placed 27th out of 73 schools overall with a 404 total.

PR-B/PL team results: Christian Burnett, 84; Tanner Smith, 81; Austin Orth, 79; Kyle Jordan, 75; Hannalee France, 74; and Kayla Adkins, 63.
