Pequot Lakes early childhood screening dates listed
Pequot Lakes early childhood screenings will be offered Sept. 5 and Dec. 1, 2014, and March 16 and May 4, 2015. These free screenings are required before children start kindergarten in Minnesota public schools. The ideal time to participate in the screening is between ages 3 and 4.
Screenings include a quick and simple check of how a child is growing and developing by a nurse and an early childhood teacher, who can detect possible health or learning concerns. The cognitive learning portions of the screening are based on the child's age.
The screening includes a vision check that helps detect potential eye problems but is not a substitute for a comprehensive eye exam.
The major benefit of the screening program is to identify concerns early so a child can get help before starting school.
