The sixth-seeded Pequot Lakes Patriots baseball team was eliminated by No. 3 Minnewaska Lakers in an 8-3 loss in the West Subsection 6AA opening round on Tuesday, May 27, in Glenwood. The Lakers broke open a close game with five runs in the sixth inning.
The game was closer than the final score, according to head coach Jon Kostaka.
“We played a good game,” he said. “(Minnewaska) scored seven of their eight runs with two outs, and had those hits that dropped in just out of range of our fielders.
“We really did not make any big errors. Other than the five-run sixth inning, it was a very close game.”
Minnewaska sophomore catcher Justin Amundson had three hits to lead both teams. The Lakers enjoyed a 10-7 edge in hits.
Jordan Thorson was the losing pitcher while Kody Kettleson had a two-run double in the first inning and Jared Sewall had two hits for the Patriots, who finish 8-11 overall.
“As a whole it was a good season,” Kostaka said. “We are very young and should be much more experienced next year.”
