On Saturday, Aug. 16, the Patriots defeated Lakeville South 5-2 and Osakis 4-3 while losing to Hutchinson 6-1 in a home opening triangular meet. Against Lakeville South, Wiebolt earned her 100th career victory with 6-2, 6-4 win over Katie Sourbeck 6-2, 6-4.

"It was pretty cool," Wiebolt said of the milestone. "Getting 100 wins has been a goal of mine since I started playing varsity in seventh grade. It was fun to do with my family watching."

Wiebolt had additional family members in attendance since her cousin, Jenna Sergent, was playing doubles for Lakeville South while her aunt, Monica Sergent, is the Patriots' coach.

"Haley has been leading the team at the No. 1 singles spot since her freshmen year," Coach Sergent said. "She has a strong work ethic and is very dedicated. Haley puts in a lot of time (practicing tennis) year round. She and several teammates, go to St. Cloud and takes lessons on weekends in the winter."

Wiebolt joins five Pequot Lakes graduates with more than 100 wins - Val Meschke, Kayla Lenz, Megan Lenz, Ashley Meschke and Angela Villella. All six girls participated at some time in the Jack Bowe Tennis Academy at St. John's University.

Sergent added that the Lakeville South win "was big and set the tone" for the day.

"Alex (Nelson) and Lauren (Bengtson) played their best match of the season at No. 1 doubles against Lakeville," Sergent said.

Against Osakis, the match was close and could have went "either way," according to Sergent.

"Our new varsity players at No. 2 doubles (Cassidi Herrlich/Mallory Goerges) clinched the win for us with a tie-breaker right after Carly Fyle won her tie-breaker at No. 3 singles."

Against Hutchinson, Maddison Galligan triumphed at No. 4 singles for the only Pequot Lakes victory.

"Hutchinson was probably the strongest team we faced on the day, and we were a little worn out from the heat, humidity, and previous matches," Sergent said. "We ended up losing three third-set tie-breakers. It would be fun to play them again when we are fresh and see if the outcome would be different."
