Patriot Perspective: Pequot Lakes PTA enthused about new school year
Sadly, summer has unofficially ended. But with that change brings the excitement of going back to school. The enthusiasm filling the school hallways is shared by the members of the Pequot Lakes PTA as we also prepare for a new school year.
One of our first goals is to establish our membership for the year. We are anxious for our past members to renew their membership and welcome new members, too.
To learn more about the PTA, attend the first membership meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, in the Eagle View Elementary School Media Center. At the meeting you will also get an opportunity to meet Melissa Hesch, the new elementary principal.
What does joining the PTA require? Members can join a committee such as Health & Wellness, Carnival, Appreciation or Fundraising, to name a few. Membership can also be as simple as bringing a dish to the teacher appreciation potlucks. We welcome the talents, strengths and suggestions our members have to contribute.
The health and wellness committee is busy planning the Fun Run, which will be held Sunday, Oct. 5, with registration from 12:45-1:45 p.m. and the race beginning at 2 p.m. This family event offers a 2K and 5K run/walk. More information will be sent home with students soon.
To volunteer to be part of the health and wellness committee or to assist with the Fun Run, contact Wendy Jones at 218-232-0238 or email@example.com.
We are goin' bananas this year over our annual magazine sale! Please renew your magazines for the year and help the PTA make it another great fundraiser. You can order traditional subscriptions, digital subscriptions, gifts and new this year are Remember This photo books ... all great ideas for holiday gifts. Please watch for details at the beginning of the school year.
Conferences can make for a long day for teachers. To show our appreciation for all the teachers do for our students, the PTA hosts a potluck for the staff during conferences. At the Middle Level the potluck will be on Tuesday, Oct. 7, with Eagle View's on Monday, Oct. 13. If you would like to bring something to the potlucks, contact Mindy at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Mark your calendars for Breakfast Buddies, an opportunity to enjoy breakfast with your student(s) at Eagle View. Breakfast Buddies are scheduled for Fridays, Oct. 10, Nov. 14 and Dec. 12.
Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) will also be resuming this fall at Eagle View Elementary Scool. The pizza party sign up will be held in October. Watch for more information on this exciting volunteer opportunity for dads.
Also being sent home with students is the information sheet to be part of the student directory. Being a part of the student directory is optional, but is a great resource for finding students friends for get-togethers or birthday parties. Advertising opportunities are also available in the directory. For more information contact Gretchen Bombenger at 612-703-7226.
The accomplishments of the PTA are many, including more than $20,000 in financial support for programs such as Fun Books for Kids, Literacy Library, National Junior Honor Society and miscellaneous teacher grant requests, to name a few. We are also proud to provide the Fun Run, Watch D.O.G.S., spring carnival, Breakfast Buddies and more. However, these events are only possible through the commitment of our members and our community.
We look forward to working with you on another year full of fun events and great accomplishments as we work to complete our mission to promote, improve and enhance the curriculum and life experiences of the students and staff at Eagle View Elementary School and Pequot Lakes Middle School.
