(Headline) Three years of Backus improvements outlined.
Outstanding projects completed in 1987 include the new Backus sign on highway 371 welcoming guests to the area and offering a business directory and calendar of events for the community. A new tower and beacon were installed at the airport. Completion of the new city hall was realized through a joint effort with the Firemen's Relief Association.
With the city of Pine River in both the booze business and the law enforcement business, it was inevitable that the July 29 death of David Rollins, 14, and Swen Erickson, 22, would become a matter of municipal business.
Deborah McAllister, daughter of Frank and Sue McAllister of Pine River has won the Young Miss of America State Title.
