The Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have awarded $401,625 to Pine River Regional Airport in Cass County, U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan announced.
The grant will provide federal funding for measures taken to protect equipment from adverse weather conditions and extend its lifespan. It will also allow for 75 feet of road to the airport from the public road to be paved.
Nolan, a member of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation, as well as the General Aviation Caucus, emphasized the importance of local airports for tourism and business in the Eighth District,
"Regional airports, like Pine River Regional Airport, play a crucial role in our rural economy by providing transportation to business commuters and visitors alike," Nolan said. "Maintaining and improving access to the airport will allow for more speedy and efficient air service in the area. It also supports good-paying middle class jobs and enhances our rural economy, from construction, to business and tourism."
