The music and physical education departments of Pequot Lakes High School join together Friday evening to present a combined student demonstration of skills. Larry Mariette, music instructor, will be presenting junior high and high school students ... Judy Odegaard and Cal Wallin from the physical education department will be presenting their students.

(Photo) Solid advice: John Bueckers, Pine River Red Owl, explains to Steve Gearey some of the basics of display in the retail store. The Pine River Distributive Education class studies the different types of stock displays and actually learned to assemble the goods in a way to please the customer.

Breezy boy found safe after four hours in the woods. “I’m afraid I might become overprotective,” commented Loretta Walberg, days after her 4-year-old son, Nathan, wandered into the woods near their Breezy Point home.

Crosslake Cub Scout Pack 101 hosted Pequot Lakes Cub Scout Pack 102, challenging them to a Pinewood Derby race. Winners were, in first place, Jesse Gridley, Crosslake Den 2; second place, Brian Hoag, Crosslake Den 2; and third place, Gregor Gunelson, Crosslake Webelo.

Tennis anyone? Pequot girls add new sport. The Pequot Lakes School Board on a split vote, 5-2, added girls’ tennis to fall sports.

Fast action saved tot in Breezy Point Resort pool. Two-year-old Vanessa Schaffer owes her life to two women, one an emergency room nurse who pulled her from a pool at Breezy Point Resort. Vanessa was blue when she was pulled from the water by Jeanne Oelfke and Sherri Bogatzki.

Travis Loeffler will join the Pequot Lakes Police Department. Loeffler replaces deceased officer Brian Schloesser.

Alice Bourgerie of Pine River was featured as the “Queen of Crochet.” At 85, Bourgerie had captured the Lord’s Prayer and Lord’s Supper in crochet.
