Local musician to perform in Crosslake, Pequot Lakes
Local songwriter, singer and guitarist Shannon Murray will perform at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at the Crosslake Community Center, and at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at the Pequot Lakes Library.
Her show, "People's Music: Songs of the Industrial Workers of the World," will feature some of her original music, as well as music of the early 1900s.
Murray will share her research on industrial workers of the world (IWW), general history of the time and how the IWW used music as an organizing tool within the labor movement. She will perform cover songs from that era, along with songs she has written inspired by the labor movement.
Murray will relate this national movement to her personal history with Eugene Debs and his visit to Bemidji, local IWW organizing and the riots. This event is appropriate for all ages.
