Wildfire burns quickly through pines near Nisswa

Lightning tied for first place

The Nisswa Lightning amateur baseball team moved into a Victory League North Division tie for first place with Fort Ripley after defeating the Rebels 12-5 on Saturday, June 21, and edging the Pierz Bulldogs 3-2 on Sunday, June 22.

The Lightning, 6-1 in division action, are scheduled to play at Buckman at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, and then host Cuyuna at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 29.

Lightning 12, Fort Ripley 5

On Saturday, Jason Roepke belted a pair of three-run homers and went seven innings on the mound to as the visiting Lightning handed Fort Ripley its first division loss of the season.

Roepke finished 3-6 at the plate and was the pitcher of record, striking out four while giving up eight hits and five runs. Jeremiah Piepkorn and Adam Hardy both went 2-5, each with a double, and Aaron Jenkins was 2-5 with a pair of RBI for Nisswa, which enjoyed a 14-9 edge in hits.

Rhett Williamson and Logan Kalis each had three hits for the Rebels.
