Lightning lead victory league

The Nisswa Lightning amateur baseball team leads the Victory League North Division by one game after defeating Cuyuna Range 9-1 on Sunday, June 29, and Buckman 13-5 on Saturday, June 28.

The Lightning, 8-1 in Victory league action, are scheduled to finish the regular season by hosting Fort Ripley at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 5.

Jason Roepke enjoyed a big weekend for the Lightning with a grand slam in Saturday's win and three hits and 3 more RBI in Sunday's victory. He also earned the pitching win against Cuyuna.

Lightning 13, Buckman 5

On Saturday, Jeremiah Piepkorn belted a pair of two-run homers and Roepke drillled a second-inning grand slam against the Billygoats.

Brett Jenkins was the winning pitcher, and had eight strikeouts, in eight innings before the game was called because of lightning.

Mark Germain, Chris Pederson and Jenkins each had two hits for Nisswa, which enjoyed a 14-12 edge in hits.

Lightning 9, Cuyuna Range 1

On Sunday, Roepke allowed five hits and struck out seven in going the distance on the mound. The Lightning finished with 13 hits, including two each by Piepkorn, Aaron Jenkins and Morgan Shepherd.
