Lightning down St. Joseph

Player/manager Aaron Jenkins went 4-4 as the Nisswa Lightning defeated St. Joseph 9-1 in a non-league game on Saturday, May 17.

Jason Roepke, who pitched five innings of relief, earned the victory for the Lighting, who put the game away with seven runs in the sixth inning. Nisswa enjoyed a 10-5 edge in hits.

On Friday, May 16, the Lightning pounded Staples 17-4 despite each team having 10 hits. Aaron Jenkins, Jeremiah Piepkorn and Luke Schumer all homered for Nisswa. Schumer didn’t allow an earned run in five innings of relief to claim the victory.

Nisswa is scheduled to play a non-league game at Cold Spring on Friday, May 23, host Lastrup at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, and then play at the Pierz Brewers in a Victory League game at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 25.
