Learn about 'Minnesota's Lost Towns' at Pine River event Friday
Grab your metal detectors, friends and neighbors! The Pine River Public Library, my home, is about to take you on a tour of "Minnesota's Lost Towns."
There are 150 of these town discussed in Ms. Fochs' book. This is exciting stuff. I'll bet ghost hunting isn't even out of the question.
Author Rhonda Fochs will be in Pine River to give a talk about her book. Don't miss this. What fun! Where are/were these towns? What made them boom? What made them bust?
I want to know, but, unfortunately, I won't be able to attend, though I may have to read the book.
The presentation will be Friday, Aug. 22, at the Pine River Depot at 3 p.m. Books will be available at a discount at the time of the talk. Ms. Fochs also has a website:www.rhondafochs.weebly.com.
If you want to make a day of Minnesota history, the Legacy Frontier Archive and Historical Tour will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. After that, visit one of the restaurants in town for a little lunch, drop by the library and check out a couple of books on Minnesota, such as "Bring Warm Clothes," then attend the book talk.
Minnesota is a really interesting state, both historically and today. Enjoy.
