Lane wins Miss Pequot Lakes crown
Vanessa Lane can add a royal title to her list of academic and athletic accomplishments at Pequot Lakes High School.
The high school senior was crowned Miss Pequot Lakes 2014 Friday night, April 11, in the high school auditorium, earning a $1,000 scholarship. Junior Emilee Buell was crowned First Princess, winning a $500 scholarship; and senior Kalli Peterson received the Miss Congeniality sash and $100 scholarship.
Other contestants were juniors Megan Malecha and Brianna Anick.
Lane’s fourth-grade escort is Sydnie Wgeishofski. Fellow fourth-graders Morgan Eckes and Annika Schlagel are Buell’s and Peterson’s escorts, respectively.
Judging for the 27th annual Miss Pequot Lakes Scholarship Pageant, sponsored by Community Action of Pequot Lakes, consisted of four categories: personal interview by the three judges before the pageant; and casual conversation, where contestants answered a question they knew and an impromptu question, talent and evening gown presentations, all at the pageant.
The winners will receive their scholarship awards upon successful completion of their first semester of higher education.
Lane will attend South Dakota State University next year to pruse a career as an occupational therapist or journalist, and where she will compete in track.
Buell’s career goal is to become an oncologist. Peterson plans to become a physical therapist or marine biologist.
George Rasmusson was master of ceremonies. Miss Pequot Lakes 2013 Angela Cole and Miss Congeniality 2013 Malyssa Engren gave farewell speeches. Princess Cheyenne Wilson was at college and unable to attend the pageant.
