Driver improvement class offered in area cities

The Minnesota Highway Safety Center will offer 55+ Driver Improvement Courses in the following area cities.

• June 2: An eight-hour first-time course will run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa.

• June 9: A four-hour refresher course will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pine River State Bank in Pine River.

• June 9 and 10: An eight-hour first-time course will run from 1-5 p.m. June 9 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 10 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hackensack.

The driver improvement course is open to the public; pre-registration is required. A Minnesota Highway Safety and Research Center certified instructor teaches this class. By using the most up-to-date research in the field, participants will be provided the latest information in regard to driver safety, new laws and vehicle technology.

Fee for the four-hour course is $20, and for the eight-hour course is $24. For more information or to register, visit www.mnsafetycenter.org or call 888-234-1294.

People age 55 and older who complete the course qualify for a 10 percent discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years, according to Minnesota law. First-time participants must complete the initial eight hours of training and a four-hour refresher class every three years to maintain the discount.
