Brewers edge Nisswa Lighting
The Pierz Brewers tallied five runs in the bottom of the eighth and held on to hand the Nisswa Lightning their first loss of the season by a 12-8 score on Sunday, May 25, in Pierz.
Josh Boser went 4-5 with a double for the Brewers and Greg Pohlkamp finished 3-6 with a pair of RBI.
The Lightning jumped out to a 4-0 first inning lead, but the Brewers battled back and were up 12-6 going into the ninth. The Lightning scored two in the ninth before winning pitcher Michael Weber struck out Luke Schumer for the final out with the bases loaded.
Mark Germain was 4-4 for the Lightning and Tyler Wittwer homered and had four walks. Luke Schummer was the losing pitcher.
Pierz is 4-2 in league play while Nisswa drops to 3-1. The Lightning are scheduled to host Midway in a non-league game at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 30, and the play at St. Mathias at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 1.
Nisswa 11, Lastrup 1
On Saturday, May 24, Brett Jenkins allowed just one run on three hits while striking out three in eight innings for a complete-game win as the Lightning triumphed 11-1 over visiting Lastrup.
Morgan Shepherd was 3-5 with a double and two RBI for Nisswa. Schumer homered, and had three walks, three RBI and scored three runs. Tyler Wittwer was 2-4 with a double for the Lightning, who had 13 hits.
