A sign marking the Butterfield homestead in Crosslake has returned to its spot after the construction of the new Dollar General.

Dodo Fraser, charter member of the Crosslake Area Historical Society, asked permission to restore the sign to its original spot after the Dollar General was built. Crews met Friday, Nov. 17, to do just that.

Horace G. Butterfield is honored as a local pioneer. He and his family moved to Crow Wing County in 1894 and first resided in what is now Fifty Lakes. He later moved to what is now Crosslake and was instrumental in organizing Watertown Township. He served as township clerk and postmaster for several years.
