Pequot Lakes Community Education offers gymnastics, figure skating classes
Pequot Lakes Community Education offers the following upcoming gymnastics and ice skating classes. Register online at isd186.org or call 218-568-9200.
Instructor will be Katie Huot, certified gymnastics instructor. Participants should wear comfortable clothing with hair pulled back and no jewelry.
• Kindergarten-second grade, level one: 6:15-7:05 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 18 and 25, Oct. 2, 9 and 23; or Thursdays, Sept. 20 and 27, Oct. 4, 11 and 25, Eagle View Elementary School upper gym. Fee: $40.
In these beginner classes, basic tumbling and floor skills will will be taught in a fun, stress-free and high-energy environment. Students will learn basic turns, jumps, handstands, forward rolls, cartwheels, back bends and low beam skills.
• First-fourth grade, level two: 7:15-8:15 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 18 and 25, Oct. 2, 9 and 23; or Thursdays, Sept. 20 and 27, Oct. 4, 11 and 25, Eagle View Elementary School upper gym. Fee: $45.
The second level is designed for those who have had previous experience in gymnastics and are ready to perfect old skills and learn new ones. They will perfect their round offs, work on back walkovers with light spot and begin back handsprings, front handsprings and simple tumbling passes.
Classes will run from 5:45-7:15 p.m. Sundays, Sept. 23-Dec. 16 (10 weeks), at the Breezy Point Ice Arena. Each class consists of one-half hour of coaching and one-half hour of practice ice, except for Snowplow Sam.
Fee: Snowplow Sam (ages 3-5), $95; Basics 1-6, hockey skills and freeskate, $115. Fee includes $15 Learn to Skate USA membership. There are no refunds and no makeup lessons for missed classes.
Breezy Point Skate School runs a certified Learn to Skate program endorsed by U.S. Figure Skating, USA Hockey and U.S. Speed Skating. Skating lessons are for people of all ages to develop skating skills used for figure skating, hockey and recreational skating.
The Breezy Point Figure Skating Club will provide instructors.
