Racing: BIR owner dies in boating accident

Pine River to celebrate Heritage Days Sept. 6-9

History comes alive during Pine River Heritage Days, slated Thursday-Sunday, Sept. 6-9.

Tea at the Station, a fundraiser for Heritage Group North, will take place from 2-4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Historic Pine River Depot with the theme, "Hats Off to the Depot."

Tickets are $25 per person. Seating is limited. For tickets, contact Lynda Weiss at 612-275-7565 or email heritagegroupnorth@yahoo.com.

Raffle tickets will be $5 each and the drawing will be held Sept. 6 at the depot. Winner need not be present. Grand prize will be a private tea party for eight to 10 people.

Pine River United Methodist Church will host its annual free quilt show from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the church. Lunch will be available.

The historic 1830s encampment at Forbes Park will run Friday-Sunday, Sept. 7-9, featuring campsites displaying wares that were offered in the 1830s. Toss a hatchet or string beads at the free event.

On Saturday, Sept. 8, enjoy free hobo stew at the encampment from 11:30 a.m. until it's gone.
