Pequot Lakes Library: Davis to speak about book publication Saturday
Susan Schaefer Davis, area resident, recently had a book published, and she will talk about it and her experiences with Muslim women in Morocco at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at the library.
The book, "Women Artisans of Morocco: Their Stories, Their Lives," tells us in a most interesting way about the women Susan came to know when she was a Peace Corps volunteer there in the 1960s. Over the years, Susan has worked with women rug weavers in Morocco, helping them to make direct sales of their work via the internet. For years, she has led cultural and textile tours through Morocco.
You may have met her here at the Pequot Lakes Community Library, where she volunteers during the summer. This free program is open to everyone and will be an enjoyable experience to all who attend. Books will be on sale here that day.
'Prairie Girl Memoir' book talk by Inez Dockter
See the post-World War II world of a small, south-central North Dakota community of Germans from Russian immigrant descent through the eyes of a young farm girl. Inez Dockter will be here at the library at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, to talk about her recently published book in which she vividly describes her girlhood experiences.
You can practically taste the penny candy, homemade ice cream and chiffon cakes. From church to school to family networks, hear about Inez's experiences of life growing up in the farming community of Ashley, North Dakota.
She was born in the middle of the Dust Bowl years in North Dakota. She lived on a family farm until age 18. Most of her adult life was spent in Minneapolis. She now lives in Pequot Lakes.
This is a free program and is open to all.
Outsmart the scammers
A representative from Edward Jones will give a seminar at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, involving scammers. Incidents of fraud are on the rise, and scammers' tactics are becoming more complex. This presentation will help give attendees the information they need to "outsmart the scammers."
The presenter will discuss how to spot certain red flags that may indicate a fraudulent encounter, resources individuals can turn to in the event they or loved ones are targeted, and steps attendees can take to help protect themselves and loved ones.
This free program is open to all.
