Luck of the draw: Allen pulls out the win in Manhattan Beach

Art, dog classes offered in Pine River

Pine River-Backus Community Education offers the following upcoming classes. Register online at prbschools.revtrak.net or call 218-587-2080.

• Summer Art Camp - My Hometown for ages 9-15: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, June 25-27, Pine River-Backus High School art room. Fee: $90 ($75 plus $15 material fee).

Class will learn about different visual art mediums and art styles. Each child will be encouraged in their own unique style. Day 1 will focus on drawing using a variety of materials; Day 2 will focus on painting; Day 3 will focus on sculpture.

Along with daily artwork everyone will have a final art piece that can hang on the wall or sit on the floor depending on the child's preference. Class will use some recycled materials.

Students should bring lunch, drink and snacks each day. All art materials will be provided. Jenni Somerness and Darnell Nelson will be the instructors.

• Level 2 Dog Obedience with Intro to Rally: 6:30-7:15 p.m. Mondays, June 25-July 30, Pine River-Backus soccer field. Fee: $50 for a first dog; $35 for additional dog.

All dogs are welcome. Go to the next level with dog obedience training and get an introduction to rally training. Instructor will be Sharon Nordrum (218) 224-2622.

• Intro to Retrieving: 7:30-8:15 p.m. Mondays, June 25-July 30, Pine River-Backus soccer field. Fee: $50 for first dog; $35 for additional dog.

This class is open to all dogs, not just retrievers. Class will learn along with their dogs how to retrieve balls, bumpers and ducks through whistle commands. Dogs will learn to wait and be steady. Instructor will be Sharon Nordrum (218) 224-2622.
