Backus Legion to host Christmas events
A Christmas party for children, a gift-giving program for needy children and gifts for active duty troops and veterans residing at care and residential facilities are included in holiday activities sponsored by the Backus American Legion, Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion.
The Kids' Christmas Party for children 10 and under will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16. It will include a goodie bag, gift project, visit from Santa Claus and a complimentary lunch.
The post is participating in the Hackensack Area Chamber of Commerce annual Giving Tree program, which provides gifts for children from needy families in the Backus-Hackensack area. Tags with the ages, gender and Christmas wishes of children from those families are attached to the post's lounge Christmas tree.
Those who want to provide a gift should pick up a tag and return it with an unwrapped gift to the Legion by Friday, Dec. 8. Participants who don't pick up a gift tag may as an alternative donate cash or a random gift and deliver it to the Legion by that date. The chamber will distribute the gifts.
The Auxiliary is preparing gift boxes for active duty service personnel from area families, veterans in nursing homes and veterans residing at the Eagles Healing Nest in Sauk Centre.
