Future Plans:
I am a senior at Pequot Lakes High School. My future plans are to attend the University of Minnesota's College of Design in the Twin Cities to major in interior design and minor in architecture. Since I was young I have always had an undying passion for art and creativity, and it's something I carry with me with and every day. What I enjoy most about art is that it's unique to each individual and represents them in an extraordinary way. Art can reflect personality moods, ideas or truly anything the artist desires. I love that it can provoke people's thoughts and emotions. Another artistic passion of mine is dance, I have been dancing since I was 4, and I also enjoy ballet.
Family:
Mom, Shawn Pearson; Dad, Marty Humphrey.
How many years have you had art?
I've taken an art class every year in school, but I've been working with art since I was old enough to finger paint!
What type of medium do you like to work with most?
My favorite medium to work with has always been simply pencils and black ink pens. I love to doodle different sketches and designs and play around with lettering. The last couple of years I have been trying to improve my painting skills using acrylics and have also found I really like using watercolor.
Do you need to be in a certain mood to make a good piece of art?
I don't feel I have to be in a particular mood to make good art, but the mood I'm in definitely influences what I create, which colors and medium I want to use, and how much time I spend on the piece.
Does your family enjoy art as much as you do?
I actually have quite a bit of artistic ability in my family, some who use their abilities and some who don't . My mom made some really neat art when she was in school. She did some wood burnings pieces and the way we sketch and make designs is very similar. My dad can also draw and make landscaping sketches and designs. Both of my grandmas are very creative with crafts and clothing. My grandpa on my mom's side was also really creative and talented with metal sculpting.
Do you believe anything could be considered art?
Yes, I believe anything can be considered art! Everything we own was created somewhere by someone who had to design what the item was going to look like - shape, color, texture and size. All of these elements make us feel one was or another and together design the look of our environments.
